The Importance of Understanding Your Own Needs
The idea that humans have physiological and psychological needs has been said through the centuries. One theory was proposed my Abraham Maslow. His hierarchy of needs model suggests that we first have to be alive to experience anything. We need food, water, and sleep. After we are able to nourish the body, we need safety. We feel comfortable and secure when we have some type of roof over our heads.
Once our need for safety is meet, we can move on to satisfying psychological needs. An important need is to feel acceptance and loved. We need to feel accepted by ourselves and by people around us. Without having the need for love met, we can feel pretty empty inside and as if life has little to offer us.
If you are at this stage, take action to step outside of your comfort zone. Make some new friends, join a club, or meet people online. Be creative and try to expand your lifestyle. For instance, change your daily routine once in a while or try new restaurants. Most importantly, take time to feel good about yourself and have pride in your accomplishments.
